Help shape Schmarl: Your project for the district by August 10th!

Something is happening in Rostock! The Schmarl district management has launched the “Your Hood. Your turn” initiative, which aims to take the interests of young people in the district into account. The campaign primarily appeals to district residents between the ages of 12 and 27 and aims to give the approximately 9,000 residents of Schmarl - including many children and young people - a voice. Rostock Town Hall reports that ideas for concrete improvements to the district can be submitted until August 10, 2023.

The incentive is great because 2,000 euros are available to implement projects that make Schmarl more livable. For example, neighborhood events or environmental and cleanliness initiatives are planned. The project is supported by the Coordination Office for Citizen Participation and the City Talks Association, who ensure that it is not just a matter of nice ideas.

Participate and submit

Young people have several options to submit their suggestions. On July 20, 2025, a place for the personal submission of ideas will be created during a block party at House 12 (SBZ), and you can also do so online at www.pollunit.com/polls/yourhoodyourturn be taken part.

An important part of the process is voting, which will take place from August 31st to September 10th, 2023. Voting also takes place online, and the most popular ideas will be announced on September 14th during another block party at the SBZ.

A look at district management

District management in Schmarl is of great importance for the successful implementation of such projects. This institution emerged from the federal “Social City” program and is now supported by the municipality. Wilko de Buhr is the district manager who acts as the contact person for all questions relating to district development and citizen participation. BürgerHus provides further information on how potential partners and citizens can be involved in this process.

With active citizen participation, the district management would like to offer a forum in which the residents of Schmarl and the surrounding area can get involved. Especially in view of climate change, this not only increases the quality of life in the district, but also ensures the future viability of the community. NHW emphasizes that the aim is to achieve climate-resilient urban development that takes the needs of all citizens into account.

With this in mind: Get involved and bring in fresh ideas to make Schmarl a place worth living in for all generations!
