Shining star in Rostock sets an example for women's rights and courage!
In an impressive campaign, the members of the Soroptimist International Club Rostock are taking a stand against violence against women. On November 25th, on the occasion of the International Day to End Violence Against Women, a meter-high orange star will be illuminated at 5:30 p.m. on Rostock's University Square. This draws attention to a global problem that affects women and girls in many forms - be it physical, sexual or psychological. SVZ reports, that the star will shine every day after sunset until December 10th, Human Rights Day.
Sabine Hilliger, president of the Soroptimist International Club, emphasizes the club's commitment to women's rights, which has existed for over a decade. In addition to the bright campaign, the club invites you to a benefit concert in the Baroque Hall on the same day. From 6 p.m., the musicians of the Rostock “Wangerin Quartet” will play works by female composers of the 19th century, including the String Quartet in E major by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel and the String Quartet in A major by Emilie Mayer. Admission is free, but listeners are encouraged to make donations to the Rostock Women's Shelter to help those affected.
