Rostock Light Week enchants: magical nights until Saturday!

The city of Rostock shines in festive splendor! On Monday, November 3rd, the Rostock Stadtwerke's Light Week opened with the motto “Cosmic Light”. Until Saturday, November 8th, the city center will be transformed into a dazzling spectacle with light installations spread between the Kröpeliner Tor and the Neuer Markt. You can see breathtaking northern lights, sparkling star landscapes and fascinating galaxies. The event promises a varied program for the whole family.

Young visitors in particular get their money's worth in the monastery garden. There is a hands-on circus, black light make-up, a story theater and exciting flashlight tours. When you look at the imaginative and bright walking acts on Kröpeliner Straße, it quickly becomes clear that it is an experience for all the senses.

Light Week program highlights

The world of lights will be further enlivened by various highlights over the next few days. An impressive LED and fire show will take place on the Neuer Markt on Wednesday from 6 p.m. The traditional lantern parade is on the program on Friday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the playground in the monastery garden. The crowning conclusion is a spectacular laser show on Saturday at 6.30 p.m. on Uniplatz.

What better way to start the evening than with mulled wine? Every day from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. you have the opportunity to purchase this warming treat for a good cause at three locations – Klostergarten, Uniplatz and Neuer Markt. The proceeds benefit 15 different clubs, which makes the whole thing really nice.

Festivals of light in Europe

But Rostock is not alone with its festivals of lights. Across Europe, similar events attract large numbers of visitors. For example, the Amsterdam Light Festival is expected from November 27, 2025 to January 18, 2026. The autumn lights in Brückenkopf Park in Jülich can also be visited until today, November 4th - an open-air gallery with countless glowing exhibits that bathe the park in a magical light.

In the city of lights Eutin, a 1.5-kilometer tour is running until January 4, 2026 and is decorated with light installations. Historical themes and new light objects are also being worked on here. There is a similar celebration in Recklinghausen, where numerous events will take place until November 9, 2025 under the motto “Cycle of the Elements – Earth and Air”.

These festivals of light, limited in time and location, are a wonderful tradition that not only brightens the darkness of the night, but also brings people from very different corners together.

With its Light Week, Rostock shows how luminous art and cultural events can go hand in hand. Visit the city and experience for yourself how the night shines with cosmic light! You can find out more about Light Week at Northern Courier as well as other light festivals in Europe ADAC.
