Rostock divers have to forego training for nine months!

The Neptune swimming pool in Rostock is facing a major challenge. From the end of July, the popular sports facility will be closed for nine months in order to carry out urgently needed renovation work. This affects around 100 divers, ranging from beginners to athletes from the national squad. A large part of their training opportunities are no longer possible, which represents a critical situation not only for the athletes, but also for the club, the Rostock diving club. How daily news reported, there are unfortunately no notable alternatives for the athletes in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which is why training locations in Berlin, Halle, Leipzig or Dresden must be considered.

The Neptune swimming pool has had a high status in water sports since it opened in 1955. In addition to the 50-meter and 25-meter pools, there is also a diving platform that is regularly used in national and international competitions. But in order to continue to meet this high demand, extensive renovations are necessary, which have been underway since the 1990s. Kö Rostock emphasizes that these renovations are coordinated by the municipal building authority and the KOE in order to offer athletes modern conditions.

Looking for financial support

The Rostock diving club therefore has big plans. In order to be able to better cope with the financial burden of travel and accommodation costs in other cities, the club is urgently looking for sponsors. The state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is supporting the project with 20,000 euros, while the city of Rostock has not yet decided to provide financial support. Despite this support, the club remains dependent on private funding to keep the young athletes engaged and motivation high.

In order to draw more attention to the situation, the WSC Rostock took part in the NDR program campaign “UNITED in the North”. This campaign makes it possible to sensitize the audience to the ongoing challenges through an event with literature and music, while at the same time continuing training operations. Admission to this event is free, providing further incentive to rally the community behind the divers.

Progress in renovation

However, the Neptune swimming pool is not solely dependent on funding from the state and city. In addition to support from state funds, there are a variety of funding programs that could help sports facilities and clubs finance renovation projects. So offers Sports field world also provides information about grants and low-interest funding measures, which make it easier for those responsible for associations to keep track of things.

However, the upcoming budget and financing challenges are complex and their conditions change regularly. Diversifying applications for multiple programs could be the key to securing the necessary funds and making the Neptune Swimming Pool fit for the future. The work on the hall is not only a technical necessity, but also a commitment to the next generation of water sports enthusiasts in Rostock.
