Rostock's hotel landscape is changing: Radisson becomes Scanhotels!
A new name is freshly launched in Rostock: The Radisson Blu Hotel at Kröpeliner Tor is now run as Scanhotels City. The old lettering has already been removed from the facade, and on July 16, 2025, the newly designed Scanhotels website will go online to welcome future guests. Friedemann Kunz, an entrepreneur from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, who founded the brand “Scanhotels” to create more individuality and independence, is reported to be behind this change Day ticket.
The renaming is not without difficulties. Radisson has apparently announced legal action because the hotel group considers the termination of the management contracts to be ineffective. Friedemann Kunz, whose foundation already operates several hotels in Germany and Europe, faces further challenges in addition to the changes in Rostock, as a legal review of the name change is also pending. Northern Courier highlights that the Radisson is now in the hands of a global Chinese investor.
Expansion of the scanning hotels
With two hotels in Rostock, Scanhotels will become the city's largest hotel group. In addition to the renamed Scanhotels City, the Scanhotels Stadthafen, located on Silo Island, will also open in late summer. In total, the two hotels will offer over 446 rooms and almost 1,000 beds. Amenities include three restaurants, three bars, and extensive wellness and event space totaling over 2,000 square feet. The new building on the Silo Peninsula is quite ambitious with an investment volume of over 90 million euros and will house offices as well as dining options on the roof terrace, such as Day ticket reported.
What exactly can guests expect? You can look forward to a 300 square meter spa area that not only offers modern saunas but also a fitness center. Other highlights include restaurants in the inner courtyard, which promise greater culinary diversity. Northern Courier mentions that these offers are intended to guarantee a first-class stay in Rostock and that Scanhotels' marketing began on July 16th.
Outlook on the hotel market
With regard to the German hotel investment market, it can be said that demand for hotel properties remains strong. Loud Necklaces Almost 1.4 billion euros were invested in this industry in 2024, which corresponds to an increase of almost seven percent compared to the previous year. The expansion of Scanhotels therefore falls into a positive phase in which other market forces are also increasing. The trend is increasingly towards budget design hotels and conversions from office to hotel use.
It seems very likely whether the Scanhotels will expand beyond Rostock. The success in the Hanseatic city could give a certain boost to the German hotel market. A breath of fresh air is blowing in the hotel sector, and Rostock could only benefit from it.
