Rostock's divers in need: renovation of the Neptune Hall is pending!

An exciting day for the divers in Rostock: As part of the NDR cultural program campaign “UNITED in the North”, presenter Julia Westlake visited the Rostock divers’ club. In the historic ambience of the Neptune Hall, she spoke with Jaden Eikermann, a two-time Olympian who not only won a gold medal at the 2020 German Championships, but was also able to take part in the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024. This encounter not only highlights the sporting ambitions in Rostock, but also sheds light on the challenges the club faces.

The Neptun swimming hall, which is located at Kopernikusstrasse 17 and is equipped with a 25-meter pool for divers, is facing extensive renovation work. The club chairwoman Annette Rösler formulated a clear request to NDR Kultur: support for the athletes who could get into trouble before the Junior World Championships at the end of November. Ole Rösler, a talented diver, describes the hall as his “second home”.

Need for renovation of the Neptune Hall

The Neptune Hall, a new building from the 1950s with a reinforced concrete truss structure, urgently needs renovation. according to that Koe Rostock According to the report, the roof is being urgently renovated due to massive heat losses. The planned measures include, among other things, the installation of a PV system to reduce electricity costs, static upgrades with additional steel beams and the replacement of the hall ceiling with an acoustic ceiling. Work will begin at the beginning of the 2024 summer closure period and is expected to continue until 2026.

The financial resources for the extensive project amount to around 7.40 million euros, with further savings of around 4,700 euros annually with limited use. The impending closure of the 25-meter hall during the summer holidays represents a challenge for the divers, as the nearest training facilities are difficult to reach.

Improved training conditions ensured

However, the situation for divers could improve beyond the Neptune Hall. Under the Dubist Hall News we learned about the successful renovation of the diving tower in Halle-Neustadt. The diving platform there was equipped with new rubber-cork surfaces, which significantly improve the training conditions. This measure was strongly supported by city councilor Andreas Wels, himself an Olympic silver medalist in diving.

The renovation of the hall in Rostock may still be pending, but the club hopes to secure future success in diving by focusing on optimal training conditions. With the support of NDR Kultur and the constant passion of the athletes, the future of diving in Rostock could be bright.
