Bad air in Rostock: Fine dust levels alarm the population
What’s new in Cologne? Today, October 31, 2025, the focus is primarily on air quality and the culinary offerings. The measuring station at Holbein-Platz in Rostock has published some interesting data on fine dust pollution. According to the Ostsee-Zeitung, fine dust particles (PM10) are recorded per cubic meter of air. The legal limit for PM10 is 50 particles per cubic meter. This means that air quality can only exceed this value 35 times a year. But what does it actually look like?
Air quality is measured by three main parameters: particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide and ozone. There are limits for these substances in different categories:
- Sehr schlecht: Stickstoffdioxid >200 μg/m³, Feinstaub >100 μg/m³, Ozon >240 μg/m³.
- Schlecht: Stickstoffdioxid 101-200 μg/m³, Feinstaub 51-100 μg/m³, Ozon 181-240 μg/m³.
- Mäßig: Stickstoffdioxid 41-100 μg/m³, Feinstaub 35-50 μg/m³, Ozon 121-180 μg/m³.
Of course, it's not just numbers that define the health risk. The Ostsee-Zeitung reports that around 240,000 premature deaths in the EU each year can be attributed to fine dust. If the air quality is poor, sensitive people in particular should avoid physical exertion outdoors.
Air pollution on New Year's Eve
Particular attention should be paid to New Year's Eve, because this is where there is a massive increase in fine dust pollution. Around 1,500 tons of fine dust are released - that makes up a whopping 75% of the annual amount. Even if the weather plays a role in the distribution of fine dust, it should be noted that the small “battle” on New Year's Eve poses significant health risks.
Fresh air? Yes, please! The recommendation is to enjoy your time outdoors with good air quality. Health problems are unlikely with moderate exposure, but long-term effects should not be ignored. So let's enjoy the New Year wisely!
Culinary delights from the region
Fresh, first-class ingredients are guaranteed. The pizza dough consists of flour, water, fresh yeast and oil - typically Italian! This might all fit in nicely with a social gathering while paying attention to the air quality outside.
Faith and community
Matthew 28:16-20 makes it clear that it is not just about inviting people, but leading them to faith. We are all asked to spread the message and form a community based on trust and invitation.
