Shock injury time: SC Verl lost the victory in Rostock!

On November 2nd, 2025, SC Verl drew 2-2 in a thrilling game against FC Hansa Rostock in the 3rd league. In the last second of stoppage time, Christian Kinsombi equalized for Rostock in the 90th + 7th minute and thus cost Verl the hoped-for victory. The Verlern almost managed to move within a point of the league leaders Duisburg and Cottbus, but Rostock's strong finish ensured that they remained in third place.

The game started turbulently when Florian Carstens scored the first goal for Rostock in the 5th minute. But the losers were not discouraged: Jonas Arweiler equalized in the 26th minute and thus set an example. In the 78th minute, Martin Ens, who had previously conceded a corner, finally gave Verl a 2-1 lead and scored his first competitive goal for the club. But the joy only lasted for a short time.

Exciting gameplay and important saves

The first half was characterized by hectic action. Jonas Arweiler narrowly missed out in the 9th minute when he missed a great chance. But Verl's goalkeeper Philipp Schulze showed his skills and made a save to prevent Rostock from making it 2-0. Benjamin Uphoff, the Rostock goalkeeper, was also challenged and saved a shot from Oualid Mhamdi in the 43rd minute. In the second half, Rostock's pressure was noticeable, but the post helped Verlern when Marco Schuster hit the wood with a free kick in the 63rd minute.

To decide the game, coach Tobias Strobl brought on Julian Stark for Yari Otto. When victory was within reach, things got dramatic. In the 90th +2 minute, Fynn Otto prevented Rostock from scoring another goal, but it was the Hanseatic team's last attack that equalized the game. The loss of points was a painful setback for Verl.

The next challenges

With this draw, SC Verl now has to motivate themselves again as they were unable to shorten the gap to the top of the table. Coach Strobl has a lot of work ahead of him because the coming games will be crucial for the rest of the season. It remains to be seen how the team will adapt to the new challenges.

Overall, it was an exciting game that offered the fans in both Rostock and Verl a lot of entertainment, even if the result wasn't in everyone's favor. While Rostock breathes a sigh of relief and celebrates winning the point, Verl remains in third place with mixed feelings. The next game will show whether they can learn from this experience.
