Teterow's new cultural center: A place for community and creativity!

In Teterow, a charming town in the Rostock district, a former industrial site is being converted into a vibrant cultural center. The chairman of the non-profit organization format_te, Hannes Dettmann, enthusiastically reports on the plans to transform an approximately 6,000 square meter area on Malchiner Straße into a place for encounters and creativity.

In addition to a café and a hostel, this new cultural center will also offer a wide range of offerings such as sports, crafts, education, concerts and even painting courses. The city council has already approved the construction plan, and connections for water, sewage, electricity, gas and broadband internet should be in place by January 2026. The costs for these infrastructure measures amount to around 160,000 euros.

A place for community and culture

The forma_te association was founded in 2018 and has taken over the old premises of a fruit and vegetable dealer since 2019. The aim of converting the former GDR industrial complex into a cultural center is to strengthen the community and enrich local cultural life. This also includes regular events organized by the community.

Events such as a Halloween walk on October 31, 2025 and the JuKo (youth conference) on September 27, 2025 will soon be on the program. In addition, a large InterCooltur festival will take place on July 26, 2025, where, in addition to live music, there will also be culinary delights and a children's program. The summer cinema with the documentary “Infinite Space” and a subsequent film discussion on July 5, 2025 as well as a children and youth festival on June 3, 2025 are also part of the diverse offering.

Culture as a motor for rural development

Cultural centers play a crucial role in the development of rural areas. They not only promote artistic activities, but also offer spaces for meetings and the exchange of ideas. The “LAND INTACT” program supports such initiatives by making funds available for investments and modernization measures. This is particularly important for communities and small towns with up to 20,000 inhabitants.

In Teterow, the renovation of the cultural center will not only promote local culture, but also strengthen social cohesion. Such initiatives are now more important than ever to preserve and expand the quality of life and sense of community in rural areas.

forma_te's plans are a wonderful example of how new living spaces for creativity and community can be created from old industrial wastelands. In a world where togetherness is becoming increasingly important, Teterow offers an encouraging perspective that cultural diversity and community can successfully go hand in hand.
