Freisprung” theater festival: Experience creativity and diversity in Rostock!

There are exciting days ahead in Rostock! The “Freisprung” theater festival will take place from October 16th to 18th, 2025. This event is part of the promotion of young talent in the independent theater scene in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and is organized by the State Association of Free Performing Arts MV, also known as Fredak-MV. The opening of the festival starts on October 16th at 5:30 p.m. on stage 602. The anticipation of a varied program is palpable, and the first few hours already promise an exciting start.

The first evening of the festival has some highlights in store. The puppet theater piece “The Sandman” by Christine Zeides will be performed at 6:00 p.m., followed by the vernissage of an exhibition by Marta Olejko at 7:00 p.m. The crowning conclusion of the day is the techno dance theater “Alice D Lost” by Jenny Helene Wübbe at 8 p.m. So much creativity in just one night – it’s going to be a celebration!

Diverse program and workshops

But the coming days also have a lot to offer. On October 17th, a puppet show about “Henry the Fifth” and a workshop with Samia Chancrin are on the program, which is exclusively open to participants of the HMT/HfS Berlin. The evening of the 17th promises to be entertaining with the object theater “Fly with u” by Akira Schroth and the play “Family Album. Page 3” by the KBB collective.

And on the last day of the festival, October 18th, everything will be given once again: Another part of the workshop “View Points” introduces the techniques of contemporary theater, followed by the interesting performance of object theater “Beginning Goat End”. Finally, at 6 p.m., the Püppchen collective will bring the interdisciplinary piece “Women's Love and Survival” to the stage. Prizes will also be awarded as part of the festival; The winning production can look forward to a special sculpture by Barbara Wetzel.

A place for new talent

The festival is aimed primarily at young talents under the age of 35 who have a connection to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The ticket prices are quite fair: single tickets cost 12 euros (reduced 7 euros), while a 3-day ticket can be purchased for 35 euros (20 euros reduced). Tickets are available in advance at Bühne 602 in Rostock. It's nice to see how the festival offers a stage for everyone involved and at the same time strengthens the local cultural scene.

Independent of the festival, there are other initiatives to support the independent theater scene in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From 2025, new theater funding will be launched with four targeted funding lines aimed at independent theater groups, individual artists and non-commercial organizers. These new opportunities for support aim to strengthen the diversity of the theater landscape. This ensures careful funding in the region and even more creative projects can be realized.

Be there and don’t miss the “Freisprung” theater festival! The atmosphere is certain, whether at the various performances or in the creative workshops. The event is a real treat for all theater lovers and those who are looking for something special. This is exactly what makes Rostock and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania so lively.
