Traffic chaos in Rostock: construction site plan for summer 2025!

Busy in Rostock: construction sites cause diversions and traffic jams!

Rostock is currently a real center of construction site activity. Road construction work will be carried out at Wiener Platz from July 10th and is expected to last until September 19th. Here, the work on the district heating pipeline is the reason for the closure, which will pose a number of challenges for drivers. The major renovation is also planned for Heinrich-Heine-Strasse: the section between Schulstrasse and Kirchenplatz will be completely closed, and the diversion via Anastasiastrasse is already signposted. Drivers should be prepared that it will no longer be possible to enter Mittelweg from the east.

The road construction project on Werftstrasse will ensure half-way traffic and a one-way street system leading from Bramow towards the Werftdreieck by the end of September. The opposite direction can only be used from Max-Eyth-Straße. Construction work is also underway in the Hundsburgallee area, which is expected to last until July 23rd and will result in a closure near the Evershagen S-Bahn stop. Ulrich-von-Hutten-Straße is also affected: construction will take place in the section between house numbers 16 and 12 between today and July 26th.

The closure of the Weidendamm, which will last until the beginning of 2026, represents a particular challenge. The road is being redesigned here and drivers have to prepare for longer detours. A complete overview of the construction sites in Rostock can be viewed at svz.de.

But it's not just in Rostock that there's a lot of construction going on. There is also a lot to do on the highways. Road repairs have been underway on the A11 from Penkun to Pomellen since June 26th, stretching over a length of 8.9 km. Between 5.3 and 8.3 km are also affected on the A14, which is being repaired in several sections between Wismar and Jesendorf and other areas.

  • A11 Penkun – Pomellen: 8,9 km, Fahrbahninstandsetzung
  • A14 Wismar – Jesendorf: 8,3 km, Fahrbahninstandsetzung
  • A19 von Rostock nach Zarnow: 1,9 km, Fahrbahninstandsetzung, Durchfahrtsbreite 7 m
  • A20 Grundhafte Erneuerung: Diverse Abschnitte in Instandsetzung

The measures are part of an extensive investment strategy in German road construction, as Statista reports. The federal highway network now covers around 13,200 kilometers, and investments are expected to increase from the current 8.5 billion euros to 9.8 billion euros by 2028. Even if the numbers sound promising, in reality the renovation work is often reflected in traffic delays.

Especially in and around Rostock the motto is now: “Be careful when driving!” If you want to avoid the construction sites, you should inform yourself early and use the prescribed detours.
