Be careful, drivers! Massive traffic jams and construction sites in Rostock!
There are currently significant traffic restrictions in Rostock and the surrounding area. Today, July 23, 2025, not only continues to bring a large number of construction sites, but also current traffic jam reports on the important traffic axes. The A19 and A20 motorways as well as the B103, B105 and B110 federal highways are particularly affected. The Ostsee Zeitung reports that drivers on the E55 between Am Warnowkai and Peez have to expect a traffic jam of around 0.3 km, which means an additional three minutes travel time.
The live map from StauMelder shows: Where there was previously free travel, a lot has changed today. Green means clear roads, but orange and red indicate heavy traffic and the risk of traffic jams. The traffic jam, especially on the E55, is no coincidence.
Construction sites and renovations
Numerous construction sites are making a significant contribution to the situation. Neubrandenburger Straße in Rostock will be renovated in three sections from 2025, which will result in massive restrictions for drivers. The southern section could begin its renovation as early as February 2025 and is already planned to take around nine months. Closures are also planned for a longer period in connection with the district heating supply to the municipal utilities.
The demolition of the bridge in Rennbahnallee at the zoo, which is planned for autumn 2026, is particularly explosive. In addition, the Vorpommern Bridge (L 22) over the Warnow will be demolished and replaced with a new one, which could take around 15 years. Such construction projects are not only lengthy, they also lead to traffic volumes that often test the patience of drivers.
Real-time traffic monitoring
In order to keep an eye on the traffic situation, providers such as traffic jam warning with TomTom and other services such as Google Maps and Apple Maps have important tools at hand. These services use GPS data from millions of devices as well as automatic information from around 80 million mobile devices and road sensors. The data is updated every five minutes to inform users about current traffic conditions. The system is therefore ideally positioned to provide timely notification of traffic jams and closures.
There are currently a few other closures, including the K12 between B103 and Wilsener Straße, which, with a length of 0.7 km, does not result in any loss of time. These closures are often short-term and offer only minor delays to motorists. However, it is advisable to inform yourself in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.
In summary, the traffic situation in Rostock is complex. Between construction sites, temporary closures and the ever-popping traffic jams, it is important to keep your nerve - because, as we all know, traffic has its own laws. So always be alert and plan your trips strategically!
