Two men in Rostock: Break-in in a workshop ends in police custody!

On the night of August 14, 2025, two men broke into a vehicle repair shop in the Brinckmansdorf district of Rostock. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when an alert witness heard a loud bang and noticed flashlight beams. Alarmed by the noises, he immediately informed the police, who quickly arrived to clarify the situation. After initial investigations, it turned out that it was a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, both of whom had previously consumed alcohol. The estimated property damage is around 200 euros, which is roughly equivalent to the typical damage that can be expected in the event of break-ins, as these are often accompanied by destruction of doors and windows.

As NDR reports, the police managed to arrest the two suspects on site. But the story took an unexpected turn: around an hour and a half later, around 4:30 a.m., the police became aware of the men again as they were being loud on the Petri Dam. Their aggressive attitude led to another police operation where they even attempted to attack the officers. Ultimately, both men were taken into custody to sober up and prevent further incidents.

Burglary and its consequences

Burglary, as occurred in this case, refers to unauthorized entry into restricted areas - often with the aim of unlawfully appropriating property. In German law, burglary is not defined as an independent offense, but always goes hand in hand with other crimes such as theft or trespassing. According to Wikipedia, burglary is the most common form of these crimes.

Damage caused by break-ins can be significant and often amounts to several hundred euros, as was also the case in the current case in Rostock. The perpetrators often use methods such as breaking or prying with tools to get into the desired rooms.

Statistical recording

Unfortunately, the clearance rate for burglaries in Germany has been quite low for years. In recent decades, rates have fluctuated between 13 and 20 percent. This means that the police often face a challenge in providing clarity about many such crimes. What is particularly noteworthy is that in many solved cases, only a third lead to actual charges and convictions are pronounced in around 3% of cases. A sad circumstance for those affected, who often have to struggle not only with financial damage, but also with a feeling of insecurity.

The incident in Rostock clearly shows that burglaries are not just cases of damage, but can also have significant social consequences. It remains to be hoped that such crimes can be reduced in the future through preventive measures and increased awareness among the population.
