Sassnitz is planning a big return of the Sail GP: 150,000 euros in funding!

On Tuesday evening, the city council of Sassnitz in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district will be looking at an exciting vision of the future: the Sail GP. This exciting sailing event is scheduled to return to the city in 2026 and 2027. As a first step, a declaration of intent was signed between the city, the state government and the German organizers to make these plans more concrete. NDR reports that ...

Financial resources are required to implement these plans. The city administration is prepared to provide 150,000 euros each for the Sail GP, but the approval of city representatives is essential for this. This could generate revenue through various sources, such as parking fees and the sale of promotional items. The AZS group has already submitted a motion to review the Sail GP's expenses and income this year in detail.

Financing and urban development

In addition to the preparations for the Sail GP, there are other important topics on the city council's agenda. The city administration is planning to reorganize the rental agreements for garages in the city area. The plan is to terminate all existing contracts at the end of the year, combined with an offer of a basic rent of 120 euros to the current contract holders. This project could arouse the interest of some residents.

Another topic concerns the planned LNG terminal in Sassnitz. The AfD parliamentary group is demanding access to the emergency plans that exist in the event of an accident. The AZS parliamentary group has also asked for a list of the 21 million euros in state funding for the construction of the terminal. This is particularly important as the operator Deutsche Regas plans to operate the terminal permanently without shore power, which was originally part of the approval.

Energy supply of the future

In this context, the Hanseatic Energy Hub is becoming increasingly important. It will be positioned as an import terminal to secure Germany's LNG and green gas supplies. Hanseatic Energy Hub informs that... This means that the market ramp-up of hydrogen is also on the agenda, with the first expansion phase planned for 2027. The aim is to create a zero-emission terminal for LNG, bio-LNG and synthetic natural gas (SNG) that will operate in an existing industrial park.

With a future-flexible modular system, the hub is ideally prepared for the requirements of the green energy transition in order to further advance emission-free energy supply. In addition, the terminal will be put into operation as an ammonia-ready facility. And by early 2024, Stade will be the location for one of five Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) chartered by the German federal government. These developments underline how important a modern, future-oriented energy infrastructure is.

The city of Sassnitz has a lot on the table. From the preparation of exciting sailing events to strategic planning in the area of energy supply - there is a lot to be tackled and designed in the coming months and years!
