Last Thursday, July 3rd, around 4:10 p.m. in Schwerin, more precisely in Hamburger Allee, there was a traffic accident that caused quite a stir. A 71-year-old driver of a Seat car and a 54-year-old driver of a Ford were involved. The older man intended to turn left from the right-hand left-turn lane onto Am Grünen Tal street, but overlooked the Ford driver who had the right of way. The subsequent collision between the two vehicles resulted in estimated material damage of around 10,000 euros.
Consequences of the accident
Fortunately, there was no material damage, as there were fortunately no injuries to the vehicle's occupants. The Ford was no longer drivable after the two vehicles collided and therefore had to be towed away. The Seat, on the other hand, was able to drive on to the next workshop after the accident was recorded. The police secured the scene of the accident and finished recording around 4:50 p.m Press portal further reported.
Such accidents are not isolated cases. According to that EU Parliament Thousands of people in the European Union lose their lives or are seriously injured every year. Between 2010 and 2020, the number of road deaths in Europe fell by a remarkable 36 percent. Nevertheless, caution is advised, especially when observing right-of-way rules and traffic signs.
Last but not least, this incident shows how important well-functioning traffic lights and increased traffic safety are. Even though fortunately only material damage was caused this time, the accident could have been more serious if the circumstances had been unfavorable. The police and road safety initiatives have a responsibility to prevent such situations and increase safety on the roads.
