On October 26, 2025, fans in Aachen watched a thrilling volleyball game between the Ladies in Black Aachen and the reigning German champions Schwerin. After the match, coach Mareike Hindriksen was proud of her team's more mature style of play. “We really improved and stood up to the Schwerin team for a long time,” she said enthusiastically. Aachen's Tsvetelina Ilieva, just 23 years old and an import from Bulgaria, was named the team's most valuable player (MVP). She convinced not only with strong attacks, but also with solid assumptions. Ilieva will be an important part of the Aachen team in the Volleyball Bundesliga next season and is eager to play at the highest European level. This was also confirmed by the Aachener Zeitung, which highlighted her impressive career in the USA, where she received countless awards for her achievements at Binghamton University.
The path of the Ladies in Black
In addition to Ilieva, the Aachen squad will be strengthened by other talented players. The new additions include setter Corina Glaab, diagonal attackers Celine Jebens and Hanna Freyinfeldova as well as outside attacker Sindi Mico and middle blocker Lea Ambrosius. These reinforcements bring a breath of fresh air to the team, which now has a total of nine players for the 2025/26 season. Ilieva, who recently returned from her stint with Turkish second division club Çanakkale Belediyespor, firmly believes in the potential of the new Aachen team.
