Warnitz Fire Department celebrates 65 years: Strong anchor of the community!

The Warnitz Volunteer Fire Department celebrated a very special anniversary last Saturday: its 65th anniversary. Founded in 1960, it is not only an indispensable part of fire and disaster protection in Schwerin, but also plays a central role in the cultural and social life of the Warnitz district. Mayor Rico Baden schier and fire chief Jens Frehse enjoyed a panoramic view of Warnitz from the fire department's turntable ladder during the celebrations. The city leader emphasized how important the volunteer fire department is as a cultural contact point for the community and how it significantly shapes social life.

Last year, the fire department was called to 76 calls, which is well above the average of around 50 calls per year. The fire department is also active in the neighboring district of Northwest Mecklenburg. The fire department currently has 39 active members, 8 reservists and 5 honorary members. In addition, the youth fire brigade was able to take on 16 active young people, with a waiting list waiting for more interested people. In view of the great interest, the fire department already has plans for an extension to the existing fire station in order to further improve operational capability and create space for the equipment.

A strong sense of community

City President Sebastian Ehlers thanked the fire department for its many years of commitment and outstanding social function. Fire chief Jens Frehse expressed the desire for a second fire engine in order to better meet the requirements of the operations. The fire department is seen as an anchor in the Warnitz district, where fire and disaster protection is not the only priority. Annual events such as the Easter bonfire or lantern parades bring the community together and strengthen the sense of community.

Perspectives for the future

A particular focus is on youth work: the youth fire brigade is an essential foundation for the future of the fire brigade. However, the lack of space poses a challenge here, as currently only up to 16 children and young people can be trained. In order to take the increased demand into account, expansion of the accommodation options for the equipment and the purchase of a container for additional children and young people are being planned. The Warnitz fire department is calling for donations to secure the necessary funds to purchase and equip containers.

The Warnitz fire department has established itself as a powerful and reliable partner in the community. With clear visions for the future, she is ready to meet the challenges of the coming years and continue to be a valuable member of the local social fabric. Schwerin local reports that the fire department is very popular in the community and will continue to exist in the future with its strong community.
