Illegal cannabis plantation in Grevesmühlen - police strike!

In the last few days there have been several surprising discoveries in the northwest Mecklenburg region that have brought the police to the scene. On Wednesday evening, concerned residents reported the smell of fire coming from a former bakery in Grevesmühlen. However, the officers who arrived found no fire, but something far less common: an illegal cannabis plantation. Almost 200 herbal treats, plus over four kilograms of packaged marijuana – that was the haul for the law enforcement officers. A 22-year-old suspect was temporarily arrested. The Borkener Zeitung reports that the Schwerin district court has also ordered searches in other buildings in Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony and that a 61-year-old woman, the owner of an empty house in central Saxony, has been involved another plantation of around 400 plants was also temporarily arrested.

The investigation is under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, which has applied for arrest warrants for both those arrested. This shows that drug-related crime in the region is not an isolated case; the police have struck several times in the last few days.

Cracking down on drug-related crime

Previously, on Friday, the police in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Hesse carried out several sweeping operations against drug-related crime. In Bad Oeynhausen, a cannabis cultivation facility was discovered in a busy leisure center that cleverly hid behind climbing walls and escape rooms. The police also found another plantation in an empty half-timbered house in Lower Saxony. Together, the two systems were designed for up to 4,200 cannabis plants. Six suspects of Albanian nationality between the ages of 22 and 54 were arrested and are currently in custody. Tag24 reports that several kilograms of ready-to-sell cannabis and a five-figure sum of cash were seized during these operations.

These developments clearly show that the police are taking decisive action against drug-related crime. In the Northwest Mecklenburg region, a cannabis plantation with around 150 plants was also discovered in a barn between Grevesmühlen and Lübeck. Three men between the ages of 30 and 55 were arrested. In this case, too, the Wismar district court issued arrest warrants at the request of the Schwerin public prosecutor's office, while the oldest of the suspects was released on conditions. Interestingly, a large amount of cash and cocaine was seized from one of those arrested. [NDR].
