Shocking mass falls: 70 injured in the cycling race in Bad Dürrheim!

On September 7, 2025, a dramatic incident occurred at a road bicycle race, the RiderMan, in Bad Dürrheim, Baden-Württemberg, which ended in serious injuries for many participants. According to web.de, around 70 racing drivers were injured, although the exact number of injuries could not yet be conclusively recorded. The frightening reports of the incidents are alarming: up to 20 participants are said to have been seriously injured and numerous other participants had to receive medical care.

The accidents occurred on the K5705 between Bad Dürrheim and Biesingen, where two mass falls were recorded during the race. According to swp.de, race organizers had to cancel all races immediately, which meant the end of the entire event for the weekend. Originally over 1200 participants were registered for the event. However, the authorities assume that none of the accidents were caused by external influences.

Extent of injuries and rescue measures

The injured were taken to surrounding clinics, with 20 to 25 drivers with minor injuries being treated on site. In total, around 60 to 70 participants suffered injuries of varying degrees. The enormous rescue effort included the use of four rescue helicopters and numerous ambulances, supported by a senior emergency doctor.

Despite these dramatic events, the incident raises questions about safety standards in cycling. There have already been controversial discussions about the dangers in cycling in the past, especially after serious falls in major tours such as the Tour de France or the Giro d'Italia, as radsport-rennrad.de reports. These events have led the UCI to introduce new safety protocols to improve conditions of participation.

Role of the organizers and future security measures

However, current incidents make it clear that there is still an urgent need for action. Drivers and fans are calling for a review of the routes and safety measures. At the Tour de France 2021, for example, a massive increase in crashes put organizers under pressure, while at the same time the majority of riders are calling for safety conditions to be improved.

Tragedies like RiderMan highlight the challenges in the world of cycling, where safety concerns meet the technical and economic aspects of events. The discussions about risk management and the necessary measures to reduce accidents will undoubtedly continue in order to protect athletes and participants.
