Schwerin celebrates 35 years of pottery: a market full of creativity!

The Schwerin pottery market is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: 35 years of pottery in Schwerin. This market is one of the most beautiful ceramics markets in Northern Germany and attracts visitors from near and far. On the first weekend in July, specifically on July 5th and 6th, around 50 exhibitors from Germany and neighboring European countries will present their artistic ceramic pieces. Opening hours are on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so there is enough time to explore the diverse offerings. At the same time, the market will be transformed into an impressive open-air gallery that invites you to linger and browse, as the SVZ reports.

The offering ranges from everyday ceramics to artistic objects and innovative works, which are represented by new exhibitors such as the Japanese Atsushi Kitahara. The market not only offers the opportunity to admire the most beautiful ceramics, but also allows for direct interaction between artists and visitors - a rarity that is greatly appreciated by guests. “Personal contact makes the experience more intense,” says one of the organizers.

Special highlights and diversity

Well-known ceramists are represented this weekend, including international participants such as Job Heykamp from Belgium and Kamila Dziedzic from Poland. The variety of works on offer is impressive:

  • Ulrike Uschmann – unikate Porzellanarbeiten
  • Curt Lehmann – Tierplastiken
  • Ingrid Jacobsen – einzigartige Gefäßobjekte
  • Thomas Stüke – Gartenkeramik
  • Hanno Leischke – Waschbecken
  • Beate Pfefferkorn – preisgekrönter Porzellanschmuck
  • Ross Campbell – fantasievolle Insekten aus Ton

The selection is large and ranges from rustic ceramics to exquisite works of art. Various manufacturing and firing techniques, such as Raku and salt firing, are presented. The exhibitors are carefully selected by a jury of experts from the Ton und Tone association, which ensures the high quality of the works of art, as is explained in detail on Bi uns in Norden.

Tradition meets future

According to Sylvia Ludwig, the association's chairwoman, promoting young talent in the pottery craft is a major concern as it is becoming increasingly difficult to find training places. “This market is not only a place for art lovers, but also a springboard for future potters,” says Ludwig. The musical accompaniment is provided by the duo “Knopf und Zopf” from Wismar, which gives the market an additional cozy atmosphere.

Another highlight is the opportunity to become active yourself. At Rainer Finck's stand, visitors can try out their own pottery skills and learn some techniques. This makes a visit to the Schwerin pottery market an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

A comprehensive list of all participants and works can be found on the official website Schweriner Töpfermarkt. Keramiko also offers an overview of other interesting pottery markets in Germany and Europe, which arouses anticipation for future events.
