Schwerin celebrates: Grozer and Alsmeier triumph at volleyball awards!
A bright day for German volleyball! On October 30, 2025, outstanding achievements were recognized at the Volleyball Awards 2025 in Schwerin. SSC Palmberg Schwerin was able to celebrate twice: Leana Grozer, the 18-year-old exceptional talent, was voted young player of the year, while former player Lina Alsmeier won the title of volleyball player of the year. These honors underline the importance and success of women's volleyball from Schwerin.
The election of “Volleyballer of the Year” has an almost 50-year tradition in Germany and always attracts many volleyball fans. This year, over 7,000 fans took part in the vote - a record turnout that shows how high the interest and enthusiasm for the sport of volleyball is in Germany. Grozer received an impressive 50 percent of the vote, while Alsmeier, who currently plays for Italian club Igor Gorgonzola Novara, received 29 percent. The 24-year-old athlete was honored for her outstanding achievements in Italy and for the German national team.
A new format and new categories
The Volleyball Awards 2025 were held jointly by the German Volleyball Association (DVV) and Volleyball Magazine for the first time and included new categories, such as the Coach of the Year award. Stefan Hübner, coach of SVG Lüneburg, was awarded this title, while Erik Röhrs of Vero Volley Monza was honored as Volleyball Player of the Year. Röhrs won 32 percent of the fan votes and impressed with strong performances at the World Cup and in the Italian league.

The popularity of volleyball in Germany is unbroken. In 2024, the DVV had around 436,000 members and recorded an increase of more than 26,000 new members.
