VCO Women I start the 2nd League North with a defeat – Eintracht remains!

The Osnabrück (VCO) Women's I Volleyball Club has had a difficult start to the new season of the 2nd Bundesliga North. Last Saturday, September 23, 2025, they were clearly defeated 3-0 in the opening game against Schweriner SC II. The game took place in Schwerin and ended with the sets 16:25, 23:25 and 23:25. Despite the clear result, coaches Gunnar Kraus and Philippe Quistorff saw some positive signs in their young team's game.

The first movement was marked by nervousness; Schwerin pulled away early with 9:3 and finally won clearly with 25:16. Things initially looked better for the VCO women in the second round: They were leading 14:9 at one point, but had to lose the set 23:25. In the third set, the Osnabrück team also briefly led 23:22, but Schwerin again managed to win the set 25:23 and thus the entire game. The last two sets were extremely close, which once again highlights the performance of the VCO team.

Positive approaches despite defeat

Particularly noteworthy is the performance of setter Maya Sendner, who was awarded the MVP silver medal for her convincing performance. “There are points that we need to improve, but the young team has shown good approaches,” emphasized coach Gunnar Kraus after the game. The age structure of the team members is between 16 and 21, which means that the players still have a lot of development potential.

The next game for the VCO women is already around the corner: On Saturday, September 27th, the team will face USC Münster II in the Schlosswallhalle. Münster also won its first game convincingly 3-0 against RC Sorpesee. The VCO ladies are looking forward to collecting their first points of the new season in front of their home crowd.

A look at the league
