Circus William won't be coming to Usedom in 2025: That's behind it!
Bad news for all circus fans on Usedom: The Circus William will not be on the island in 2025. This is the first time in over 20 years that the traditional circus will not be performing at its usual location. The decision, which affects many fans, was made to invest resources in the “Willes Welt” theme park.
The Wille circus family is committed to a clear separation between family and animals. This decision is not only economically motivated, but has also become necessary in view of the new drinking water protection ordinance, which prohibits a circus operation near the Bansin gas station. The circus had to find a new location as early as 2023, which explains the current situation.
A new path for Circus William
Despite the cancellation of Usedom, the circus family remains optimistic and plans to go on tour during the Christmas season. Circus William has developed an excellent reputation and cooperates closely with schools and clubs, which makes changing locations much easier. “We feel a strong connection to Usedom and hope to return,” explains a member of the circus family.
Instead of traveling, Circus William will stay at the “Willes Welt” theme park, which is around 40 minutes by car from Berlin and Frankfurt/Oder. This five-acre theme park not only hosts animal shows, but also features carousels, a petting zoo and is home to a variety of animals, including camels, zebras, antelopes and even two white tigers that have found a permanent home here.
The change in the circus world
The circus and its industry are changing – and there are reasons for that. More and more people are placing value on it Animal protection and modern forms of performance. The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has already taken measures to ensure that circus animals are treated well. These include, among other things, the publication of circus guidelines and the introduction of a circus register regulation in order to better monitor the use of wild animals in circuses.
The Wille circus family is aware of its responsibility and has always strived to provide the animals with the best possible care. A look behind the scenes shows that the animals in the circus are well fed and appear to show no signs of animal cruelty - from the visitors' perspective, last year's performance was very positive.
In summary, despite the difficult decision to leave Usedom behind, Circus William continues to pursue an exciting and animal-friendly path. It will be exciting to see what the future holds and where the circus family will soon set up its tents.
