On Sunday evening, a 60-year-old fell on the A24 between Zarrentin and Gallin. Traveling with two friends, they soon noticed that their companion no longer appeared in the rearview mirror. The friends' quick reaction resulted in the driver being flown to hospital in Lübeck with head and back injuries. Due to the rescue helicopter deployment, the motorway in the direction of Hamburg had to be closed for a short time.
Serious accidents on Friday
On Friday morning, a 39-year-old lost control of his Kawasaki near Ventschow and slipped off the road, resulting in serious injuries. Another incident occurred when a 68-year-old collided with a deer on the B5 between Boizenburg and Lauenburg. The collision resulted in a fall with several fractures, so that the injured person also had to be taken to a hospital in Hamburg by rescue helicopter. The B5 had to be closed for more than two hours while the deer died at the scene of the accident. The exact cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the police.
Serious motorcycle accidents are increasing in the province. How nordkurier.de reported, several fatal accidents have occurred in recent weeks. On Wednesday alone, a particularly dramatic day for motorcyclists, a 26-year-old died near Gützkow when he collided with a guide post. The extent of the damage was around 5,000 euros. On the same day, a 56-year-old in Rostock was fatally injured in an accident turning left because a driver overlooked him. This incident resulted in the road having to be closed for approximately two and a half hours.
A worrying development
In this series of sad news, further fatal accidents also occurred on August 23rd and 25th. A 75-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured in a rear-end collision on the B111 between Bansin and Ückeritz and was also taken to a clinic by helicopter. Here too, it remains unclear what exactly led to the accidents. More and more serious accidents involving motorcycles are occurring, and the number of rescue services being deployed is increasing.
The increase in the number of accidents underlines the urgency of increasing safety on the roads in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
