Greifswald receives 44 million euros for a modern education center!
Something is happening in the field of education in Greifswald! The Vorpommern-Greifswald district is planning to build a new regional vocational training center (RBB), which will combine the existing locations on Hans-Beimler-Straße and Siemensallee. A step that not only improves the training infrastructure, but also significantly optimizes the framework conditions for teachers and students.
The official grant notification for 44.3 million euros was recently received by Dr. Wolfgang Blank, the Minister for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labor. “This is an important building block for the future of our region,” says Blank. District Administrator Michael Sack (CDU) supported the initiative and reported the planned total costs of around 55.4 million euros, of which the state will cover around 80%. Financing comes from funds for the expansion of business-related infrastructure and from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Innovative learning environment
The new education center will offer space for up to 1,800 students and 100 teachers. The aim is to create a modern learning environment that meets the requirements of the labor market. The project not only envisages the consolidation of the locations, but also a barrier-free design of the building with step-free and threshold-free entrances and exits as well as several elevator systems.
It is also planned to install a photovoltaic system and supply it via the city's district heating network, which underlines the environmentally friendly orientation of the new building. With a clear focus on the training needs in the region, the aim is to constantly adapt teaching content to changing skills requirements in collaboration with local companies.
A look into the future
Construction on the education center is scheduled to begin in autumn 2025, with completion by 2028. The aim is not only to promote the quality of life in the region, but also to actively shape the training of young talent. The educational institution will offer a wide range of training options, from dual training courses to vocational preparation to specialist high schools, which are geared to the needs of the local labor market.
The philosophy of the new center becomes clear in a statement from the school director Denise Berndt: “For the region, with the region” is the guiding goal that will shape future work. Innovation and creativity should go hand in hand here in order to open up perspectives for young people and prepare them as best as possible for the challenges of the future.
