New turntable ladder for Bansin-Heringsdorf: savior on high!

There is reason to celebrate in the Baltic Sea resort of Bansin-Heringsdorf: The volunteer fire department has put a new turntable ladder, the DLK 23-12, into service. This modern emergency vehicle replaces an old turntable ladder from 1998, which was taken out of service by the TÜV due to technical defects. In times when security and modern technology are becoming increasingly important, this step is more than sensible and necessary. The commissioning of the DLK 23-12 followed intensive planning that began in 2019, and until then a rental vehicle was used to efficiently support the fire department.

This new turntable ladder is based on a MAN TGM 15.290 4×2 chassis and impresses with an engine output of 290 hp and a fully automatic transmission. Thanks to these technical features, the DLK 23-12 is ideally equipped for both rescuing people and fighting fires. In addition, it also enables technical assistance, such as illuminating operational sites in the dark.

State-of-the-art equipment for a wide range of applications

The features of the DLK 23-12 are remarkable. It has a rescue basket with a load capacity of up to 500 kilograms, which enables several people to be rescued at the same time. In addition to the standard equipment, the fire brigade in Bansin-Heringsdorf has integrated forestry equipment, a heavy-duty stretcher and a power generator with an output of 14 kVA from Eisemann, which can be useful in many operational situations. Two respiratory protective devices complete the offer.

In comparison to the DLK 23-12, which is based on a MAN TGM 15.290, the Verl fire department's turntable ladder, also a MAN chassis, is equipped as a DLK 23-12 with an L32A-XS articulated part. This turntable ladder has proven itself in practice and is often used in fire operations as it marches off as a second unit together with a fire engine (LF 20). It has special features such as high maneuverability, thanks to the steerable rear axle, as well as a multifunctional rescue basket.

An important support for operations

In general, turntable ladders such as the DLK 23-12 are the most frequently used aerial rescue vehicle by fire departments in Germany and many other countries. Especially in urban areas, where the streets are often narrow, a modern turntable ladder makes an invaluable contribution to quickly and efficiently rescuing people in need. The ladder park, which is extended in several segments, offers a reach that usually extends to the 7th floor, which in many cases is sufficient to gain access to high-rise buildings.

The diverse range of uses, from rescuing people to extinguishing fires and providing technical assistance, make the turntable ladder an indispensable vehicle in firefighting technology. Whether for self-protection of the front teams in an internal attack or for support in large fires - the updated turntable ladders ensure safety and effectiveness in combating danger.

The new DLK 23-12, a reliable and modern emergency vehicle, is now in service in Bansin-Heringsdorf, which will significantly support the volunteer fire department in its missionary work and gives us all a good feeling.
