Smugglers at the border: 19-year-old arrested – refugees caught!

On June 16, 2025, the federal police arrested a suspected smuggler at the German-Polish border in Blankensee. The 19-year-old, who was traveling in a Polish car, said he received 1,200 euros for transporting an Afghan man and two Somali nationals. The circumstances indicate that he violated applicable law by smuggling foreigners for commercial purposes, entering the country without permission and driving without a license. After his arrest, the smuggler was taken to the detention center in Neustrelitz NDR reported.

In another incident, the federal police discovered four Eritreans in Plöwen and Rothenklempenow who had apparently crossed the border on foot. These people were deported back to Poland via the Linken border crossing. Such situations are not uncommon, as many migrants cross the border region to reach Germany in search of a better life.

Illegal entry and its background

On the same day, four Syrian nationals who had also entered Germany illegally were arrested at another location, south of Grambow. These men, aged 20 to 25, were unable to produce any documents that would legitimize their stay. Investigations show that they came to Germany via the Belarus route and they have submitted a request for protection. The four were forwarded to the initial reception center for asylum seekers in Stern Buchholz. This shows how pressing the problem of illegal migration at the borders is Northern Courier reported.

The smuggling of migrants is a complex phenomenon. People often leave their home countries in the hope of better living conditions or protection from persecution. Like that Federal Criminal Police Office described in detail, the methods of smuggling can be very different. From driving services to forged documents - everything offers the possibility of making an unauthorized stay in Germany possible.

The dangers associated with such trips are significant. Migrants risk injury, dehydration or worse and often have to pay exorbitant amounts to organize their escape. The costs vary greatly and can range from a few hundred to 15,000 euros for guaranteed smuggling. Such practices are not only illegal but also highly dangerous and require strict action by the authorities.

These current events at the border make it clear that the challenges in the area of illegal migration are still present. Intensive and coordinated action by the security authorities remains necessary to counteract this problem.
