Stralsund: Volkswerft becomes a technology center – new opportunities for start-ups!
A lot is happening in Stralsund: The Volkswerft, an important location in Western Pomerania-Rügen, will be restructured in the future. The foundation stone for this will be laid on November 2, 2025, when the division of the site into two areas officially goes into operation. That reports NDR.
The site will be divided into an industrial area and a technology center called “werfEINS”. While the technology center offers public access, the industrial focus around the well-known shipbuilding hall remains a protected area. Access is still only granted after registration.
The new access to the technology center will be accessible on foot from Rügendamm station – around the clock! This measure is intended not only to increase the attractiveness of the location, but also to specifically target young, innovative companies. Preparations to promote a broad mix of industries are already in full swing, according to the city of Stralsund on its website Stralsund.de.
A look into the future
What exactly can visitors and companies expect in the new technology center? In addition to the new access road and a company canteen, which is also open to guests, business-related events are planned. In addition, a training workshop for welders will be created in close cooperation with MakerPort, which is scheduled to go into operation next year. New talents can be developed and promoted here.
With these measures, Volkswerft is facing an exciting development that is intended to increase the attractiveness of the region. The existing infrastructure, which ranges from shipyard chefs to a port, makes Stralsund a hotspot for technical innovations and young companies. The industrial sector, on the other hand, remains a safe place for local companies where safety-relevant standards are adhered to.
If everything goes according to plan, the location could not only become a magnet for start-ups and technology-oriented companies, but also permanently change the economic landscape of the region. With the right instinct and commitment, Volkswerft could experience a significant upswing in the coming years and put Stralsund on the map for innovative companies.
A look into the future shows that Stralsund is more than just a Hanseatic city; Here we are actively working on a modern and dynamic economic landscape that both preserves old traditions and breaks new ground.
