Waren students celebrate victory: Best ninth graders honored!
On November 11, 2025, the celebratory award ceremony of the IHK Neubrandenburg took place as part of the competition for the “Best Ninth”. This competition, which has been running for ten years, aims to strengthen academic performance and team spirit in the classes. This year a total of 22 classes from 19 schools and high schools took part, which shows how high the interest in this award is. Participants were evaluated based on their grade point averages in all subjects as well as the average rating of students' work and social behavior.
The winner in the “Best Ninth” category at regional schools is class 9Gc of the European Comprehensive School on the island of Usedom under the direction of class leader Frank Student. In the high school category, class 9a of the Alexander von Humboldt High School in Greifswald, supervised by Jens Bernheiden, was able to claim first place. Particularly noteworthy is class 9R2 from the regional school “Friedrich Dethloff” from Waren (Müritz), which secured the prize for the highest improvement in performance. Class leader Marina Horn was very proud of her students’ successes.
Prizes and awards
The award ceremony took place in the IHK Neubrandenburg, where the IHK general manager Torsten Haasch presented checks worth 1,000 euros each and certificates. Haasch also pointed out how important dual vocational training is in the region and encouraged students to consider this path. The event was not only a recognition of the students' achievements, but also an invitation to fully exploit their own potential in the professional world.
The diversity of participating classes shows the broad spectrum of the education system in the region, which includes 17 classes from the Mecklenburg Lake District and 5 classes from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district, with 15 coming from regional schools and 7 from high schools. This mix is a sign of the schools' commitment to continually improving the quality of their training, which is also desired by the IHK.
A look into the future
In times when educational requirements are constantly changing, it is important to optimally prepare students for the job market. The IHK competition can be seen as a small impetus to promote not only knowledge but also social skills. The results of the competition could serve as a motivator for other schools to further intensify their educational efforts.
But what happens next? The employment agencies in Lower Saxony, which are based here, among others, offer support for students and young professionals. Here young people can find information and contact options to plan their next steps. If you would like to find out more about the employment agencies in Lower Saxony, you can do so via the IHK Niedersachsen.
Overall, the awarding of the prizes and the associated recognition shows that education is not just an individual matter, but also a collective effort. Every step towards better performance is a step in the right direction, both for the students and for the region.
And for those interested in technical careers, it's a good idea to take a look at companies like Pyromation. This manufacturer of thermocouples and other sensors is not only active in North America, but also internationally and shows how diverse the possibilities are in the world of work.
