Circus in Zinnowitz: Permit refused – dispute with the community!
In Zinnowitz, a popular holiday resort on Usedom, there is currently a lot of hustle and bustle surrounding a circus tent that has been standing on the B 111 since mid-July - and without any permission. The district of Vorpommern-Greifswald did not leave this without consequences and issued an official ban on use. Mayor Fred Kruggel makes it clear: “A circus is not permitted at this location.” According to Florian Stahlkopf, spokesman for the district, there was not even an application for approval for the project.
This situation has put the circus operator in a precarious position. She complains of considerable difficulties because the municipality refuses to provide her with electricity and water. Advertising for the circus offering has been restricted to such an extent that one could raise the question: How is one supposed to attract an audience here? The usual circus meadow, which has provided space for various events over the years, is no longer allowed to be used - and for a good reason: it is regularly under water.
A known problem
These disputes are reminiscent of earlier conflicts surrounding the change ban on Usedom. Other events also faced similar difficulties, and such disputes often ended up in court. Some tent operations had to be dismantled before the end of the season. Similar problems also occurred at the flea market in Zinnowitz, which was eventually moved to other parts of the island in order to meet municipal requirements.
However, Mayor Kruggel emphasizes that the cooperation with the responsible people on site works well. “The agreements are being kept,” he emphasizes, showing that despite all the difficulties, there is a certain degree of order. However, the situation remains tense and the question is: How will this conflict develop further? Those interested and tourists can only hope that an amicable solution will be found soon.
In summary, it can be said that the legal framework on Usedom is subject to strict requirements. This could pose a serious challenge for both the operators and the community in the future.
