Changes due to the Building Energy Act

When the Building Energy Act (GEG) comes into force in 2024, there will be some significant changes. There is no longer any obligation to replace heating systems, but advice is mandatory before installing fossil fuel heating systems. However, certain oil heaters installed before January 1, 1991 or more than 30 years old will need to be replaced. However, there are exceptions that concern the use of low-temperature or condensing technology as well as hybrid heating without fossil fuels.

To support households, there will also be financial incentives for replacing old heating systems. Currently, 30.4 percent of residential buildings in Germany use heating oil, and in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the figure is even 32.6 percent.

So while heating oil prices are causing some uncertainty, it remains to be seen how the market will develop in the coming months. The current prices are always updated daily, so you always stay up to date.
