A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2025, on the L29 near Garz on Rügen. A 28-year-old motorcyclist got into oncoming traffic due to excessive speed, which led to a serious collision. The 46-year-old driver of a car could not dodge in time and was also involved in the accident. The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and immediately had to be brought to the clinic in Greifswald with an ambulance. The driver got away with mild injuries to the arm.

The situation is alarming. All of the damage is estimated at around 25,000 euros, and the L29 had to be completely closed for around three hours during the accident. Such accidents remind us of the severity of traffic safety, which has been a constant topic in recent years.

For example, a 47-year-old convertible driver was recently sentenced to a fine of 12,000 euros after seriously injured a 13-year-old student who had danced on the street. This incident shows how quickly accidents can happen and how important it is to be attentive at any time. The driver had rejected the accusation of the intentional act and argued that he had not noticed the boy sufficiently. Nevertheless, he had to bear the consequences for his actions, including the withdrawal of his driver's license for 18 months.

The traffic accident statistics illustrate that men in particular at the age of 18 to 24 are disproportionately affected. While this age group is only 8 percent of the population, 12 percent of the racing dead were in this age group this year. The challenges are diverse, but the sensitization and training for traffic safety must be at the top of the agenda to avoid such tragic incidents.
