New bike park in Ummanz: investment of 100,000 euros planned!
Something exciting is happening in the municipality of Ummanz, which is located in the picturesque Vorpommern-Rügen district: a new bike park is on the horizon. At a meeting on Monday evening, community representatives agreed to move forward with this project. Mayor Holger Kliewe (CDU) has already announced the funds planned in the budget for preliminary planning and estimated the investment costs at around 100,000 euros. However, a suitable location is still being sought for the bike park, which should not only offer space for passionate cyclists, but also parking options.
The demands on the new bike park are high: Kliewe emphasizes that it should be professionally designed. It should not be satisfied with simple mounds of earth, but rather offer a varied and attractive facility. A total of up to 5,000 square meters are planned to be used, which will primarily appeal to young people and sports enthusiasts. A project like this is a benefit for the community and not only enriches local leisure activities.
Funding and support
In order to make the bike park a reality, the community is also hoping for funding. These could come from the federal program for the renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture, which has existed since 2016. According to information from bmwsb.bund.de The program has already supported 904 projects and provided over 1.5 billion euros. The aim is to reduce the renovation backlog of social infrastructure such as sports facilities, which inevitably also benefits social cohesion in the municipalities.
Another example from the region shows how important such projects are: The city of Halver receives funding of 142,000 euros for its bike park. These funds come from structural and village development and are intended to help strengthen the town centers as residential areas and meeting places. This further motivates the community's commitment to realizing its own bike park.
Prospects for the future
Preparations have already begun for both the bike park and an adjacent skate park. The necessary clearing at the Karlshöhe site has been completed and the legal steps have been prepared. Tenders for both systems are now expected within a period of around two to four weeks. The procurement committee will consider the bike park on August 19th, while the contracts for the bike park are expected to be awarded at the end of August. The inauguration could take place as early as 2026, so visible progress in the construction of the park will be seen in November/December 2025.
In summary, the bike park in Ummanz will not only be a place for sporting activities, but also a new contact point for the community. The targeted funding and successful preparations promise an exciting new chapter for the community - a project that is at the top of the list! We can't wait to see how the plans develop and what positive impulses the park will bring to the region.
