Mystery tendrils: Pensioner cycles 1200 km for Lio's health!

A very special cycling adventure came to an end in the last few days when Roland Jahn, a 65-year-old pensioner from the Harz Mountains, covered an impressive distance of over 1200 kilometers. His goal? To collect money for seriously ill children, especially four-year-old Lio from Putbus. A moving project that impresses not only with its route, but also with the personal encounters and the matter of the heart behind it. The tour took him to the picturesque Cape Arkona.

Jahn, member of the club Children's laughter 009 Rügen, pedaled to draw attention to the difficult situation of many affected families. The tour covered more than 4,000 meters in altitude and reached over 1,000 people. The visitors, including personalities such as footballers from 1. FC Magdeburg, cycling legend Täve Schur, as well as Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and singer Wolfgang Lippert, showed great support through their participation. This not only raises money, but also conveys an important message.

A commitment to the future

A third of the donations collected - at least 3,000 euros - go directly to Lio's family. In addition to Lio, Jahn also visited other seriously ill children, such as little Eileen from Rennertshofen and Lina, who suffers from Leigh syndrome. Such visits are not only emotionally moving, but also reveal the reality that many families face.

The donations are part of the “Tour of Hope”, which has been held annually in the summer since 1983. This most renowned fundraising bike tour in Germany aims to provide children and young people with cancer with better treatment and care. This year around 190 cyclists took part, cycling through various regions in Germany and collecting over 2,250,000 euros for a good cause.

A newcomer with big impressions

Roland Jahn sat in his saddle, lost in thought, as he recorded the various stages of the tour in his diary. The emotional connection with the children he spoke to, as well as the warm welcome at the numerous stops, created experiences that will never be forgotten. The highlight of the tour was, among other things, the last day, when the cyclists went to the Angelika Lautenschläger Children's Clinic in Heidelberg.

The Union Children's laughter 009 Rügen is active in this important tour every year. They not only provide financial support, but are also a contact point for many families in difficult situations. The “Tour of Hope” picks out the best aspects of volunteering and combines enthusiastic cycling with a good cause. So hope doesn't just remain a word, but becomes a tangible reality through such committed actions.
