Rechlin is fighting for medal: State competition Our village has started the future!
Rechlin, Deutschland - With fresh courage and a lot of commitment, six idyllic places in beautiful Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have thrown their hat into the ring. On July 4, 2025, the starting signal for the 12th state competition "Our village has a future" in Rechlin, a charming town in the Mecklenburg Lake District district. Not only the most beautiful place should be sought here, it is more about appreciating the voluntary initiatives, village clubs and clubs that shape a livable home in the villages. As reported NDR, this year Rechlin and the municipalities of Ummanz, Kurzen Trechow, Rühn, Grambow and Bentzin will compete against each other.
The anticipation is great, because the winner will be announced in autumn 2025 and has the opportunity to represent Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the 2026 competition. The competition, which is proclaimed every three years, is aimed at politically independent communities or village parts of the municipality with up to 3,000 inhabitants. Dr. Till Backhaus, Minister for Climate Protection, Agriculture, Rural Areas and Environment, encourages the municipalities to participate and emphasize the ability of people in rural areas to master crises together. Information about this exciting competition can be found on the [website of the state government MV] (https://www.gregierungs-mv.de/landes government/lm/laendliche-raeume/wettbewertb-unser-dorf-hat-zukunft/).
strengthening the village community
It shows that rural regions not only offer a high quality of life, but also develop into vital living, working and cultural areas. The importance of active village communities is underlined by the Federal Government. Committed citizens and creative ideas are crucial to find future -proof solutions even in difficult times. Especially for young people and families there are often attractive alternatives to city life in the villages.
But what does it look like when the population sinks? The emigration also goes hand in hand with the closure of village shops, bank branches and citizens' offices, which makes everyday purchase difficult. Innovative approaches are required here: cooperative local suppliers, mobile offers and neighborhood aid can help to close supply bottlenecks. In times of high construction costs and housing shortage, it is important to think of interior development and to shape villages that adapt to the demographic changes.
a sustainable look into the future
The current competition "Our village has a future" plays a central role. The winners of the circular selections are qualified for the upcoming state round and thus discover new ways of networking and exchange. A living example is research on digitization in rural areas, which is presented at specialist conferences. The Federal Government promotes projects for creating smart and networked rural areas.
In this way,not only the rural culture, but also living together in the villages is strengthened. It remains exciting to observe which place is the winner in autumn and ensures the chance of the federal competition. The people in the communities are called up to bring in their ideas and efforts in order to make their homeland worth living and continue to form a strong community in the future.
