Renovation of the historic hangar in Pütnitz: A key project for the region!
At the former Pütnitz military airfield near Ribnitz-Damgarten you have your finger on the pulse of development. The renovation of Hangar 1 has begun, a pilot project that aims to preserve both a historic building and the future development of the area. That's what she reports Baltic Sea newspaper.
A specialist company for concrete renovation has taken on the contract for a trial renovation. Not only is the roof of the hangar cleaned intensively, but the joints in the concrete elements are also exposed. Particularly impressive: a water lance with 2000 bar pressure is used to precisely check the condition of the reinforced concrete structure. The estimated condition of the building structure is clearly visible at the transitions from the masonry to the roof.
Redevelopment and future of the area
This is a vitally important redevelopment that is closely linked to the plans for the Bernstein Resort. The hangar, which dates back to the 1930s and is a listed building, plays a central role in future planning. Dr. Gerhard Stenzel, a civil engineer, is overseeing the entire project, which aims to determine the ability of the historic hangars to be renovated and to develop suitable procedures.
The plan is to repair around a quarter of the roof area on a trial basis, meaning around 3200 m² is on the agenda. The project's main investor, Center Parcs, has big plans: He wants to build 3,200 beds in various holiday homes and apartments on around 85 hectares. There is also a campsite with 300 parking spaces that Supreme GmbH is planning. Furthermore, Pangea Island will be built in hangars 4 and 5, while halls 1 to 3 will be used for a technology museum.
Concerns and resistance
But the path doesn't seem to be as smooth as the plans suggest. A citizens' initiative called “No Mass Tourism on Pütnitz” is fighting against the expansive project, and the courts have already intervened. A resolution was passed prohibiting demolition work and the decision on approval is still pending. There is also confusion regarding the numbers with which the initiative operates, which leads to repeated accusations.
But there are also bright spots: Funding could possibly be used to secure the hangars, as the head of the building department Heiko Körner replied at a meeting of city representatives. The issue of improving the drainage of the hall roofs could also find support and thus make planning for the holiday resort on the peninsula easier, such as NDR reported.
At this meeting there was also a debate about the expense allowances for the volunteer fire department, whose monthly compensation for officials will now be increased. Shelters for the younger generation of Ribnitz-Damgarten are also to be built on the monastery meadow, which promises closer cooperation with the young people.
The development of the site in Pütnitz remains an exciting topic that presents both opportunities and challenges. The renovation work on Hangar 1 is just the first stage in a long journey that is important for residents and investors alike.
