Things are about to get hot in picturesque Stralsund, in the Vorpommern-Rügen district: the 6th Stralsund Triathlon will take place on August 31, 2025. Around 670 athletes from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Hamburg have registered for this event, which is the latest in the sports calendar. Participants can look forward to exciting disciplines, as the triathlon combines swimming, cycling and running in one exciting competition.
The swim start traditionally takes place in the Sound, one of the most picturesque settings in the region. Afterwards, they cycle through the idyllic surroundings before the athletes switch to the running route along the sound promenade, which leads directly to the finish. The distances are clearly defined here: The popular everyone's triathlon includes 750 meters of swimming, 20 kilometers of cycling and 5 kilometers of running, while the Olympic distance consists of 1.5 kilometers of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running. There is a special youth triathlon for young people aged 12 and over, which promises both fun and challenge, reports NDR.
An event for everyone
The Stralsund Triathlon has not only established itself as a sporting event, but also attracts crowds. With around 2,000 spectators expected, the city will be in celebration mode over the triathlon weekend. The event is one of the third biggest sporting highlights in Stralsund, right after the Rügenbrückenlauf and the Sund Swim, according to the OSTSEE-ZEITUNG.
Registration for the triathlon was open until August 29th at 11:59 p.m. via the official website. The Olympic and everyone's distances are available for the relays. Participants can apply in different categories, so there is something for every sports enthusiast.
The event will be followed live in the live ticker of the OSTSEE-ZEITUNG from 9 a.m. on the day of the event. From the first strokes of swimming to the last steps of running - spectators can experience all the action up close.
The organizers, the Sportbund Hansestadt Stralsund e.V., promise an exciting and well-organized event that offers lots of fun and entertainment not only for athletes but also for spectators. And who knows? Maybe there will be one or two talents among the participants who will cause a sensation at the next competition!
