Sundair boss becomes Entrepreneur of the Year – A new sound of bells in Franzburg!

In Stralsund, the founder of the airline Sundair, Marcos Rossello, will be honored as “Entrepreneur of the Year 2025” next November. This honor underlines the economic importance of Sundair for the Western Pomerania region. The airline, founded in 2016, has developed strongly since then and, despite certain uncertainties in the travel industry, is planning further growth and new international collaborations. Sundair operates from several bases in Germany, including Berlin, Bremen and Dresden, and offers flights to popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean and North Africa, such as Heraklion and Hurghada ostsee-zeitung.de, wikipedia.org.

However, the airline is not the only focus of regional news. A new church bell will soon be inaugurated in Franzburg, which was purchased as part of the renovation of the bell tower. The parish had already decided to purchase a third bell in 2022 after the old ones had fallen silent for years. The inauguration of this bell takes place on Reformation Day with a festive parade and is awaited with great interest by the community.

Cultural and economic insights

A new Netflix series is also attracting attention in the broader Rügen region. “Heweliusz”, which will be published in November, deals with the sinking of the ferry “Jan Heweliusz” off Rügen in 1993, which is one of the largest post-war shipping disasters in the Baltic Sea. The five-part series is based on witness statements and court documents and will air on Netflix from November 5th, accompanied by advance screenings in Szczecin and Gdynia [ostsee-zeitung.de].

Unfortunately, Rügen's increasing popularity is causing tension among dog owners. At Mönchguter Strand, the beach steward complains about aggressive dog owners and problems with leashes. There are different regulations for keeping dogs on the beaches, with the Baltic Sea resort of Binz having already set up six dog beaches without a leash requirement, which is very popular with dog owners.

Construction projects and rail connections

Another point that concerns commuters and communities are the delays in the DB construction projects at the train stations in Wittenhagen, Grimmen and Rakow. Originally planned for 2025, the work has now been postponed to 2028, making the situation even more uncomfortable for commuters. The suffering caused by the dilapidated platforms and barriers continues to spread throughout the region and is causing anger. People long for better connections and a situation that meets today's needs bdl.aero.

Overall, it shows that the economic and cultural landscape of Western Pomerania remains dynamic, with everything that goes with it - be it the innovative strength in aviation, new traditions in the communities or the challenges that arise in everyday life. There is a lot to observe and report here!
