New portal Computing Germany: Revolution for the IT industry!
Today, October 3, 2025, there is exciting news for the IT landscape in Germany and Europe. The launch of the new website Computing Germany brings a breath of fresh air to reporting on technology and digital innovations. The platform aims to provide insights, analyzes and comprehensive information, particularly in the context of the German IT industry. Particular attention will be paid to current topics such as the EU Data Act, the challenges for data center providers in Germany and the progress towards a European sovereign cloud stack Computing reports.
Editor-in-chief Kerstin Mende Stief, who shines with her experience in corporate IT and cybersecurity, wants to build bridges between the English-speaking world and innovations in Germany. Under her leadership, the site offers content in German and aims to strengthen connections within the European digital economy. Computing Germany is part of a larger network that also includes other well-known brands such as CRN and XChange.
The EU Data Act and its implications
A central topic addressed on the new platform is the EU Data Act, which came into force on September 12, 2025. This regulation aims to promote the digital economy in the EU. The aim is to make access to data easier and create fairer competition. The new rules for switching cloud services are particularly interesting. These are intended to address the annoying vendor lock-in problem and make it easier for customers to switch to another cloud provider or use multiple providers. Alston highlights that the new rules apply to all “data processing services”, which promises wide application.
The new guidelines mean that cloud providers can no longer create insurmountable hurdles for customers to switch to a new provider. This includes, among other things, that contract terminations and the conclusion of new contracts must be possible within 30 days. Support with exit strategy and an overview of portable data are also required. This will make things much easier for many companies to handle, as explained in detail on the parent platforms.
Deadlines and penalties
An important date is January 12, 2027, because then cloud providers will no longer be allowed to charge switching fees. Until then, fees that do not exceed the actual costs incurred are permitted. At this point, the EU Data Act requires providers to adapt their contracts and terms of use accordingly and to take technical measures that enable customers to achieve functional equivalence with their new provider. Computer Week explains that Member States must appoint responsible authorities to ensure that the new rules are enforced.
The new requirements will change the entire IT landscape in Germany and the EU. Companies are required to reorient themselves and align their contracts with the upcoming changes. The new Computing Germany platform will certainly be a valuable companion in these dynamic times.
