Culture in change: Discussion series at the Bauhaus University Starts!
Geschwister-Scholl-Straße 8, 99423 Weimar, Deutschland - On June 19, 2025, the Bauhaus University Weimar organizes a new discussion round as part of the "Beyond Now-Future issues in society". This event, which takes place from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the skylight hall of the university's main building, focuses on the cultural role as a framework of interpretation in social transformation processes. The term "cultura", derived from the Latin, stands not only for maintaining and building, but also for preserving values and traditions that are crucial for future social developments. All interested parties are invited to pursue the discussion by livestream.
The invited discussants include prominent personalities such as Annemie Vanackere, director of the Hebbel am Ufer in Berlin, Ulrike Lorenz, President of the Weimar Klassik Foundation, and Prof. Peter Benz, President of the Bauhaus University Weimar. The event is moderated by Carsten Tesch, a well -known moderator of the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk.
background of the event series
The "Beyond Now" series already started on April 10, 2023 and deals with a variety of topics that illuminate the social transformation. This includes central questions such as "What is social transformation?" That were dealt with in the first event, and the "future of democracy", which was discussed on April 24, 2023. These topics are of historical relevance, since they include the experiences from National Socialism and the GDR.
The Vice President of Social Transformation at the Bauhaus University Weimar, Ulrike Kuch, an experienced university lecturer for architectural theory, plays a key role in the initiation and management of this series of discussion. Together with Maximilian Rünker, she developed the idea for "Beyond Now" to illuminate future -oriented questions and combine various perspectives. In the summer semester 2025, the annual topic "Beyond Now - Environmental - Technology - Man" is started, which further deepens the discourses.
social relevance
The examination of the past is particularly relevant, since 2023 the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp is annoying. This increases public awareness of the teachings from history and their influence on current society. In addition, the series offers space for discussions about current social challenges that include both local and international dimensions.
The events are not only a forum for academic discussions, but also a place in which citizens can actively participate in important social issues. The Bauhaus University Weimar thus positions itself as a central player in discourse on the cultural and social challenges of the present and future. Events like this are essential for understanding and designing our common social future.
