Reichinnek demands withdrawal from Maja T.: Psychological torture in Hungary!

A sensational case currently concerns politics in Germany, but also the human rights situation in Hungary. Maja T. has been in Hungarian isolation for over a year and faces serious allegations. According to Heidi Reichinnek, the leader of the Left Party in the Bundestag, the detention conditions are nothing less than "psychological torture". The politician therefore emphatically demands a withdrawal from Maja T. to Germany to enable her to have a fair procedure.

Maja T. is attributed to the left -wing radical environment of the so -called “hammer gang” and is suspected of being involved in violent acts against right -wing extremists in Budapest in February 2023. Her critical situation is heading: in December 2023 she was arrested in Berlin and then delivered to Hungary in June 2024. A judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court, which rated delivery as illegal, came too late to help Maja T.

protests and hunger strike

According to Reichinnek, the conditions in Hungary are so serious that Maja T. entered hunger strike in early June 2024 to request better conditions and a fair process. "In terms of isolation after countless days, it is simply inhumane," explains Reichinnek, who refers to the UN minimum principles for the treatment of prisoners who classify insulation from 15 days as inadmissible.

In her argument for the withdrawal of the court proceedings, the politician emphasizes that no fair process is guaranteed in Hungary. She speaks of a "farce" that is due to the current political circumstances. Reichinnek wants stronger support from other politicians, including Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz to free Maja T. from this predicament.

The situation in Hungary

The Maja T. case is placed in a larger context. Human rights organizations such as Amnesty International report on a general attack on human rights in Hungary. The situation has deteriorated noticeably in recent years. The Hungarian government plays a critical role in the erosion of the basic values of the EU by increasingly controlling the media and judiciary. Institutions that work for the rights of minorities are also exposed to a massive restriction, while laws are deprived of critical organizations of their ability to work.

These grievances illustrate urgency to preserve human rights in Europe and to defend civil society. Maja T. is not only an isolated case, but stands for many people who suffer from repressive conditions.

In view of the current developments, the question remains: How long will politics in Germany still watch? A committed discussion and action is urgently needed to promote and protect the values of democracy and human rights.
