Youth University in Hagen: Children produce exciting teaching videos!
On June 12, 2025, an exciting event of the "Jugend University" took place at the FernUniversität in Hagen, in which a total of 27 students from the EMST primary school took part under the motto "Science is everywhere". The aim of the event was to bring the young participants a new format of knowledge transfer: the production of their own teaching videos. The pupils should discover the possibilities the medium of video offers to transport knowledge clearly and entertaining.
The event was opened by Julia George, an employee in the Fernuni transfer office. In her introduction, she explained what is happening at a university and illuminated the importance of research and the need for an understandable knowledge transfer. Judith Weiß, editor in the Center for Learning and Innovation, showed what characteristics a good teaching video distinguish.
creative video work of the students
In groups, the children worked on their own clips, which created them on self -chosen topics. During the workshop, Robin Hiermer from Radio Hagen conveyed essential moderation techniques and dealing with stage fright. The practical video recording was supported by Alexander Reinshagen and the Fernuni studio team, so that the students had the opportunity to put theoretical knowledge directly into practice.
The organizer Stephanie Steden expressed a positive statement about the curiosity and creativity of the children during film production. "It was fascinating to see how much enthusiasm and ingenuity the students let into their projects," she emphasized. Such events not only promote interest in science, but also create practical access to modern forms of knowledge.
media literacy and artificial intelligence in the educational context
parallel to the promotion of practical skills in knowledge transfer, media literacy is also becoming increasingly important. As the BPB , the relationship between man and artificial intelligence (AI) has changed. The discussion about AI has moved from dystopian scenarios to an exchange over values. Questions remain unanswered as to which values should be integrated in AI. It is pointed out that individual interpretations of values are culturally different.
An example of the challenges of AI is chatt, the text is generated that can be seen as a collective work, based on the data with which the system was trained. The quality of these texts depends heavily on the diversity and the quality of the training data. Educational policy and curricula should aim to promote critical thinking in dealing with AI and to integrate alternative worldviews into the educational process.
Overall, it shows that events such as that of the youth university not only arouse the curiosity of the children, but also promote decisive skills in dealing with modern media and technologies. The combination of creativity, knowledge and practical application could be decisive for how future generations master the challenges of a digitized world.
