Drug offenders behind the wheel: Police stop driver in Salzwedel!
An exciting night for the police forces in Saxony-Anhalt: In Salzwedel on July 4, 2025 at 12:50 a.m., a 22-year-old driver of a Simson moped was stopped during a traffic check. The drug test that officers conducted came back positive for cannabis. The young man not only found himself forced to refrain from continuing his journey, but now also has to answer for administrative offense proceedings. This type of drug drive is not without consequences. Even if there are no abnormalities, a first-time offender could face fines of up to 1,500 euros and a driving ban of up to three months, as polizei-beratung.de explains.
The police decided to take a blood sample at the hospital so that the exact THC concentration in the driver's blood could be determined. According to adac.de, from August 22, 2024, a limit of 3.5 ng/ml THC in blood serum will apply for adults. For novice drivers and people under the age of 21, the value is even limited to 1 ng/ml, although driving under the influence of drugs will result in the driver's license being suspended.
Wild animal accident and speed checks
But that wasn't the only traffic incident that night. At 12:17 a.m. a wildlife accident occurred in Born-Letzlingen when a 23-year-old VW driver collided with a deer. The animal had unexpectedly crossed the road, which not only led to a tragic end for the deer, but also slightly injured the two occupants of the vehicle. The passenger even had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Property damage in the five-figure range means additional worries for the VW driver, whose car also had to be recovered by a towing company. Such incidents often require quick action by the police and road users.
The day before, on July 3, 2025, the police carried out speed checks on Ernst-Thälmann-Straße. 57 vehicles were measured, six of which were driving too fast, with the highest speed measured being 68 km/h - but only 50 km/h was permitted. This shows how important regular checks are to increase road safety and hold speeders accountable.
Overall, these incidents illustrate how important education and preventative measures are in road traffic. Drugs and alcohol have no place there and endanger not only your own life but also the lives of other road users. The police therefore encourage responsible behavior and call for general vigilance.
