Naturalizations in Saxony-Anhalt 2024: Record number of New Germans!

For many people, naturalization is an important step into a new life. In 2024, a total of 2,813 people of foreign origin in Saxony-Anhalt acquired German citizenship. The statistical figures show that of the 2,813 new citizens, 55.9 percent are men (1,572 people) and 44.1 percent are women (1,241 people). Interestingly, 68.3 percent of naturalized people come from Asian countries, with Syria still taking the lead with 1,468 naturalized cases. This is the fifth consecutive year that Syrian nationals have registered the most naturalizations, with a moderate increase of 4.5 percent.

Origin and age structure

The countries of origin are diverse - Syria is followed by Ukraine with 162 and Russia with 134 naturalizations, as well as Afghanistan with 101. In total, 92 different nationalities are represented in the statistics. The age structure of the newly naturalized also shows interesting facets: 29.2 percent are under 18 years of age and 33.9 percent are between 18 and 35 years of age. These figures illustrate the diversity of the population, which is enriched by naturalization.

A significant proportion of naturalizations are based on Section 10 Paragraph 1 of the Nationality Act, where the period of residence was shortened from eight to five years. In addition, co-naturalizations of spouses and minor children accounted for 30.6 percent of naturalizations. Regional distribution and trends

If we look at the regional distribution, Halle (Saale) is number one among the independent cities with 601 naturalizations. Magdeburg follows with 576 naturalizations and Dessau-Roßlau has 166 naturalizations. The percentage increases are particularly exciting: the Harz district recorded an increase of an incredible 438.1 percent and the Börde district followed with an increase of 422.2 percent. In contrast, the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel had the lowest number with only 63 naturalizations.
