Revolution on the A9: Hybrid project of wind and solar energy started!

Big things are happening in the world of renewable energies in Saxony-Anhalt: The VSB Group is starting its first hybrid project in Germany. Under the promising name “Löberitz Wind & PV”, a combination of wind and solar power is being realized along the A9. The aim is to enable continuous electricity generation that is specifically geared to the daily and seasonal fluctuations of wind and sun. This was done by Solar industry reports, which also announce the construction work for the new solar park: These will begin in August with the staking work in Bitterfeld-Wolfen.

An important step for grid stability will be the leveling of the solar park, which has an output of 19 MWp. The Bitterfeld-Wolfen municipal utilities are considered as project partners here and can look forward to an option of 5 MWp. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2026, and to ensure efficient use of space, a wind turbine will share a plot of land with the solar park. There are also plans to begin road construction work for a repowering wind farm in November 2025, which will further advance the project.

Repowering in the Elster wind farm

This hybrid project runs parallel to the repowering wind farm in Elster, which is also managed by the VSB Group. Here, an existing wind farm is being replaced by 16 modern wind turbines, which will send 50 old turbines into oblivion. The result is impressive: the new system has four times the output with only a third of the previous number of turbines. Every wind farm producer dreams of such efficiency. Annual energy production is estimated at around 235 gigawatt hours, which can cover the electricity consumption of around 67,000 three-person households Wind industry reported.

The commissioning of this wind turbine is also imminent, with a planned grid connection by summer 2025. VSB, which has been active in Saxony-Anhalt for over two decades, has not only created a solid foundation, but also plans for an additional expansion stage, which is to be fleshed out with two additional wind turbines.

The role of renewable energies in Germany

In an energy industry that is increasingly in demand, the energy mix in Germany also reinforces the need for such projects. In 2022, Germany had energy consumption of 11,829 petajoules, which fell by 4.7 percent compared to the previous year. This is reflected not least in the reduced CO2 emissions, which have been reduced by around 7 million tons. The trend is clearly towards renewable energies, which already supplied 47 percent of electricity in Germany in 2022. The share of renewable energies in gross electricity generation rose to an impressive 44.6 percent Solar server determines.

With these projects in Saxony-Anhalt, the VSB Group and its partners are sending a clear signal for the future of renewable energies in Germany. The course is well set for a sustainable and efficient energy supply that meets increasing demands and at the same time contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. With this in mind: to the power of nature!
