Traffic chaos in Köthen: accidents, speed controls and fires!

A look at the traffic situation in Köthen highlights some worrying events that occurred on July 10, 2025. Police reported several traffic accidents and a number of other incidents that highlight the dangers of road traffic. A particular focus is on the background that led to these accidents, including the influence of alcohol.

Right at the beginning of the day, the 58-year-old driver of a Mercedes was driving on Hallesche Strasse in Köthen when he had to slow down at the intersection with Lohmannstrasse due to traffic. The 29-year-old driver of an Opel noticed this too late and crashed into the stationary vehicle. The resulting material damage amounts to around 500 euros on both vehicles sachsen-anhalt.de reported. The ensuing accident at 4:30 p.m. involved a 43-year-old whose trailer lost a wheel, which rolled into the oncoming lane. A 22-year-old VW driver was no longer able to avoid the collision, which resulted in damage of around 200 euros.

Alcohol and road safety

Another incident involved a 48-year-old who was involved in an argument in a parking lot in Köthen. The man pushed a 45-year-old to the ground, who then threatened him with a glass bottle. Both men were significantly intoxicated at the time of the altercation. A breath alcohol test showed the 45-year-old had a blood alcohol level of 2 per mille, which can have serious legal consequences, such as kanzleiwehner.de explained. Beyond that, blood alcohol levels can drop by up to 0.2 per mille per hour while driving and yet any incident under the influence of alcohol results in serious consequences, both criminal and civil.

In another report from 5 p.m., a 57-year-old parked his van without securing it adequately. The vehicle rolled into a parked Opel. Here too there was total damage of almost 500 euros. The police also carried out speed checks on the same day, during which 20 passages were monitored. These checks revealed four drivers exceeding the maximum speed of 50 km/h, with the fastest driver reaching up to 73 km/h. A 24-year-old e-scooter driver also tried to escape control; his insurance coverage had expired, which led to the initiation of criminal proceedings.

Arson and other incidents

On the evening of July 10, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., a fire was reported in a former restaurant on Burgkemnitzer Straße in Roßdorf. The building was fully engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived. After initial investigation, police suggested arson as the cause and have seized the scene of the fire to continue investigating the cause of the fire; the extent of the damage is still unknown.

Yesterday's incidents make it clear that drunk driving not only affects individual fates, but also endangers general road safety rechtaktuell.org emphasized. It's worth not only occasionally taking a look at your own driving ability, but also acting responsibly in the interests of the general public.
