Burglary in Schermcke: 200,000 euros worth of damage to the medical company!

An early morning shock struck the residents of Schermcke in the Börde: On Friday night, between 3 and 4:20 a.m., unknown perpetrators broke into a local medical company. The damage is considerable. The burglars stole tools and cables worth around 200,000 euros and also caused damage to the building amounting to around 60,000 euros. Nevertheless, the perpetrators had little luck, because they left the stolen company vehicles behind after a short escape attempt of around 100 meters, as [MDR](https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen-anhalt/magdeburg/boerde/schermcke-einbruch-sanitaetsfirma-sach Schaden-polizei-100~amp.html) reports.

The police immediately initiated an investigation into particularly serious theft and carried out forensic investigations. Witnesses are asked to contact the Börde police station on 03904/478-0. This region of the country is apparently not the only one struggling with increased numbers of burglaries. A look at the current statistics shows something alarming.

Increase in the number of burglaries in Germany

Nationwide, the number of residential burglaries rose to a peak in 2023. According to Home Insider, over 77,000 burglaries were recorded, an increase of around 18 percent compared to 2022. In North Rhine-Westphalia, where Schermcke is also located, there was an increase of 15 percent. This development is unfortunate, especially after the numbers fell during the pandemic.

The average damage per burglary is 3,500 euros, while the total damage from burglaries in 2023 was around 340 million euros. What's particularly alarming is that 47 percent of break-in attempts failed, which is because more and more people are investing in preventative security measures.

Prevention is key

In this context, the police have started offering free security consultations to inform citizens about effective protective measures. These range from mechanical to technical solutions that can help prevent break-ins. The latest statistics show that burglaries in urban areas have a high hit rate and that general security precautions in rural areas are not yet sufficient.

The continued increase in burglaries, as seen in Schermcke, illustrates the need to become proactive and invest in security. This not only affects businesses, but also many private households, which may also be affected by similar incidents.
