Almost three million euros for fast internet in Hohe Börde!
In the municipality of Hohe Börde, the expansion of the digital infrastructure has taken an important step. Work on broadband expansion officially began on September 17, 2025, with proper support from the federal and state governments: almost three million euros are available. This funding was announced at the groundbreaking ceremony in Mammendorf by the Minister for Infrastructure and Digital, Dr. Lydia Hüskens, announced. The focus is on sustainably improving internet coverage in the region so that both households and businesses can benefit from high-performance fiber optic internet by 2030. “This is a real benefit for the region!” emphasizes Burgemeister Andreas Burger, highlighting the positive effects on the establishment of companies and the quality of life of the citizens.
This funding will benefit 237 addresses in 14 districts that were previously underserved. As magdeburg-klickt.de reports, a self-financing expansion has already been carried out, which opens up 80% of all addresses in the municipality. The funded expansion that is now following is intended to further increase the range of fiber optic connections with a speed guarantee of up to 1 Gbit/s.
Background of the fiber optic expansion
The expansion of high-performance networks in Saxony-Anhalt began in 2015. This initiative is based on the goals of the gigabit strategy, according to which all public institutions, schools and private households should have fiber optic connections at gigabit speeds by 2030. According to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Digital, this expansion will be driven forward by a combination of self-financed and funded expansion. Funding comes, among other things, from the European Structural Funds and from the federal and state governments.
The importance of this digital infrastructure cannot be overestimated: fast internet and the latest mobile communications standards are crucial for Germany's competitiveness. The Federal Government is planning to accelerate fiber optic expansion and mobile networks through legal changes that came into force in the summer. These innovations are intended to ensure that the construction of cell towers and fiber optic lines progresses more quickly and that a better offer is provided for both companies and private households.
The path to attractive living spaces
Fiber optic expansion is not only a technical necessity, but also a central prerequisite for creating attractive living spaces. By equipping rural areas with state-of-the-art internet infrastructure, the establishment of new companies is encouraged and the quality of life of residents is increased. Political decision-makers are aware of their responsibility and are doing everything they can to advance this process.
The initiative in the municipality of Hohe Börde is a prime example of how all citizens can benefit from the advantages of fast internet connections through effective cooperation and targeted funding. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop in the coming years, but one thing is clear: the course has been set!
