Attention sports fans! Börde Lamstedt elementary school shines again!
In Lamstedt it was a day full of joy and movement when the children from the Börde Lamstedt elementary school celebrated in the newly renovated Bernhard Riemke Hall. The occasion? The reopening of the sports hall and the honorary award as a “sports-friendly school”. This honor is not just a title, but a sign of commitment to promoting exercise and health, which is awarded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture. It was a proud moment for school principal Malte Stoffel when he presented the plaque and certificate, recognizing the hard work of everyone involved. The children themselves not only brought momentum to the event with dance performances, but also encouraged school principal Stoffel and community mayor Frank Springer to take part - an atmosphere that brought the community closer together.
The renovation of the sports hall, which cost a total of 310,000 euros, included significant improvements: from the energetic roof renovation to the renovation of the sanitary facilities, including toilets, showers and changing rooms. The new doors complete the renovation work. Mayor Springer emphasized the importance of these investments for the future of the school and emphasized that the renovation work is an important step towards a health-promoting environment for the children. The goal? To promote healthy and active children.
A look into the future
With a view to future challenges, the Börde primary school plans to further expand its offerings. The all-day operation, which will begin in the 2026/27 school year, presents the school with new tasks. The lessons should be bundled at a central location in order to optimally ensure afternoon offers and lunch catering. Discussions are currently underway between the municipality and the district about sustainable solutions for the school locations. Several options are being discussed: a new school building or an extension to an existing building in need of renovation.
The decision about which measures to take depends primarily on the financial and funding resources available. However, creating a sports-friendly environment is not just a question of infrastructure, but also a question of commitment. The “Sports Friendly School” award has shown how important it is to include sport and fitness in the school program. The aim is to promote the development of children and young people through a variety of exercise options and a healthy diet. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture and the Lower Saxony State Sports Association are working on a sports-friendly climate in schools in order to promote this development, as mk.niedersachsen explains in detail.
Focus on sports-friendly schools
But what exactly does it mean to be a “Sports Friendly School”? These schools are actively committed to promoting the health of their students through sport and healthy eating. They therefore offer a wide range of sports activities and thus create a positive school atmosphere. School leaders, teachers and others working in schools advocate for the visibility and importance of fitness and sport within the school program. All general and vocational schools in Lower Saxony have the opportunity to apply for this valuable award, an opportunity that is further promoted by the support and advice program of the Lower Saxony education portal. Isn't that a good incentive to focus on exercise and health? Information about this is available at bildungsportal-niedersachsen.
