Open Monument Day: Discover the other neighbors' house!
On Sunday, September 14, 2025, historic doors will be open: the popular one Open Monument Day invites all history buffs to explore the other neighbors' house in the Haldensleben Museum between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Admission is of course free and individual guided tours are also provided.
The fascinating building, which was originally built in 1822 as an Israelite temple, not only impresses with its neo-Gothic architecture. It has found a new purpose since 2002 and functions as a branch of the Haldensleben District Museum. Since 2007, it has provided space for exhibitions and events aimed at all population groups in the city and building a bridge between different cultures and religions.
A piece of history
The history of the other neighbors' house is rich and complex. Located in the historic town center of Neuhaldensleben, it experienced the ups and downs of the Jewish community that has existed there since the Middle Ages. Built at a time when the Jewish population was suffering persecution, the building also dates back to resettlement under Napoleon in 1807 to 1814, which led to the establishment of an Israelite community in 1808. The New Apostolic Community used the building from 1907 before it was finally handed over to the Haldensleben Museum.
This year, Open Monument Day will not only be celebrated with tours of the house, but visitors can also expect exciting cultural contributions. A special highlight will be the celebratory lecture by Ulrich Hauer, which will focus on the creation and history of the monument. There will also be public rehearsals and a small concert by the district music school's clarinet trio to enrich the atmosphere.
